Legends Corner is one of Nashville's true Honky Tonk treasures and the home of legendary live country music.

Recently voted by Nashville City Search as the number one bar in Nashville, Legends Corner doubles as a museum of music memorabilia. Vokes recently had the pleasure of entertaining owner Rubel Sanderson at this year's Summer NAMM (Natl. Assn. of Music Merchants)  Nashville, with his exhibit of ArtGuitars. Now, two of Vokes "Studio Collection" ArtGuitars, "ROADKILL" and "HOME ON THE RANGE" will forever be immortalized on the walls at Legends for all to enjoy!

November, 2011 PRESS RELEASE by Erich Russek Robbins,

Owner of NOVA Music Center, Clifton, Virginia

NOVA Music Center in Historic Clifton, VA will host the Guitar Art of J.Douglas Vokes. A reception on December 3rd, 7-10pm will welcome the artist to the store. Vokes' ArtGuitars will be available for viewing and purchase thru the month of December.

Music's Collision with Art:  Have you ever heard music when you look at a piece of art? Do you ever see a place or have an intense memory after hearing one of your favorite songs? Artist J.D.Vokes takes the idea of visual music and musical art and creates his ArtGuitars. After years of printmaking and work as a graphic designer, Vokes had the idea to embellish actual working instruments with his creative designs turning recycled guitars into playable works of art. A fellow artist describes Vokes as "A master of both the printed image and the printing process itself, exemplifying his personalized artistic style."

Vokes will be bringing his stunning and innovative "Studio Collection" of ArtGuitars to the DC area this December to NOVA Music Center, a full-service music store situated in historic Clifton, VA.  Owner Erich Russek Robbins discovered Vokes earlier this year while attending Summer NAMM (National Association of Music Merchants) in Nashville, TN.  Erich reacted immediately to Vokes' ArtGuitars. "There were all kinds of big name venders at the show, but ArtGuitars quickly grabbed my attention with it's fusion of music and visual art. My daughter thought that I should immediately stock these guitars at NOVA Music."

NOVA Music is located at 12704 Chapel Rd. Clifton, VA

Since childhood, Sally (AKA, Scout) has been enamored with two things: Harper Lee's, "To Kill A Mockingbird" and guitars. In her words, "I viewed them as two wildly disparate interests. And then I saw Doug Vokes' ArtGuitars! I went to Doug with my idea to celebrate "Mockingbird" using the guitar as the medium. He transformed my basic idea and brought them to life in beautiful ways I could not have imagined. The mockingbird perched in the headstock sings and surveys the tree below. The quirky little mockingbird, proud and empowered became... The Rockingbird!"

NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE  HERE WE COME!

Chris Martin & the fine folks at the Iconic Martin Guitar Company, Nazareth PA have recently contacted me and invited me to the factory for a "meet and greet." Upon his call, I asked Tim Teel, Director of Guitar Research & Development, "What took ya so long to call!?!"  hahah! Since our first meeting (which went quite well), I've taken possession of five Martin acoustic guitar bodies to begin some of my own original designs and development work for approval by Martin executives. Ultimately, this collaboration would lead to a C.F.Martin & Co. prototype production model(s) and expose my skills to the global market. What a great way to end 2010 and begin 2011!

Special "THANKS" to Pat, Grover and all the fine folks at PBS 39 WLVT for producing a prospective on my work airing Nov.15th thru the 19th each evening at 7:30 as part of their "Tempo" Series.
